Message from the CEO and Board Chair

On March 17, 2020, we left our campuses to work from home for what was expected to be a brief period after which the then new COVID19 virus would have been dispatched. We hoped we would be teaching, learning, and working from home for several weeks soon to return to our classrooms. Now more than two years later COVID has proven a serious foe and we have shown our resilience. We have evolved as people and as a School to meet the challenges head on, responding with the same fierce calling to leverage the power of education to support our student community as they equip themselves for the challenges and opportunities they and their families face.

Many of our adult learners have had to tackle the challenges of completing their education while also supporting their children’s virtual learning; we know this is a challenge made more difficult for English language learner parents. Some of our students have been left out of federal and local aid programs resulting in financial hardship. And others have had to adjust their academic plans to accommodate for shifting work schedules and growing demands on their time.

From early in the pandemic, we have done everything in our power to make sure not one student is left behind; our school teams have worked hard to address the most pressing needs facing our learners. We are proud of everyone on the Carlos Rosario School team for their dedication and innovation during unprecedented times. From creating Blue Apron-inspired food boxes for culinary students initially learning at home; Zoom student government meetings; ensuring equitable access to education through lending laptops to each student; our IT Team and Spanish, Amharic, and French speaking teachers providing digital onboarding; creating multilingual workshops for English learner parents delivered in partnership with public K12 schools across the District; and much more.

Together we have met the moment. And we couldn’t have done it without you. We thank everyone who has partnered, donated, and checked in on us during the last two years of unprecedented challenge. Thank you for supporting our students in achieving their dreams. Read on for our two-year annual report highlighting the impacts of our beloved Carlos Rosario School manifest in the achievements of the adult learners we serve.

I am thankful that when I was working, I had a great boss who understood the value of education and gave me a flexible schedule so I could go to school. This is why I came to Carlos Rosario School, my second home. Thanks to my amazing teachers, our school’s great academic programs, and leadership opportunities, I have developed my skills and knowledge. Now I am ready for the next step, to be in the medical field.
